Do what I did; move to the deep country where cable isn't available and then take a job that doesn't pay enough to allow you the luxury of a satellite dish. I don't watch TV at all; there is NOTHING on! However, I do watch movies, the ones I choose; even then, I think the internet is the bigger addiction for me by far. My dogs are far more entertaining than the morning news programs that come on fuzzily, so I just skip 'em and play with the pooches!

Lady T I would be right next to you climbing the walls so at least you would have some company.
I very rarely watch the News, to depressing for me so I just avoid it. If there are other shows that I don't like I again just don't watch it.
My husband and I have our favorite shows and we are not giving up, Hex or Dr. Who and alto of other shows that we love. I think it is a personal choice to watch or not watch T.V.. Our choice is to watch it and my husband is not about to give up any of his games he watches either.
So, again I say that it is a personal choice. No one has the right to tell me or anyone else what is good or not good for us. I don't think anyone here is an idiot and cannot choose for themselves.

A few minutes is okay but after watching TV enough and doing little else to keep it busy, the brain will enter a recessive state, usually leading to short term memory, minimal attention span, etc.

I do not watch much TV but my wife does. Sometimes I will sit through one of her programs with her but I am rarely entertained. Most of the writing is simple formula, most of the characters are plastic and most comedy is vulgar or lame.

As far as dramas go, they just seem to be recycling the same plots over and over.

I agree. There is nothing on above age 12 level. The news is downright frightening when one sees what the politicians are doing.
Sitcoms w ppl grabbing each other and falling into bed are a bit annoying--life just ain't like that--at least it isn't for me.
Hey, didn't mean to ramble.
Yes, I think we are better off.

Either limit yourself to the Weather Channel, or find some Christian broadcasting. The Hallmark Channel is also a good choice.

TV is boring. I watch Jeopardy because it makes me think, and occasionally something else. Instead of thinking of it as giving up TV, think of it as doing other things.
