Yes, I know what you mean.
Though they are just doing there job and probably genuinly want to help people, the truth is that life is not always fair and if you are not happy with your lot in life what you need is a magic wand, not a psychologist.

Your question is a kind of self defeating assertion.we don't need any body's help to make ourselves miserable and unhappy, being quite an expert on it.It's a well acknowledged fact that a natural state for all living beings, including Humans is peace and happiness.Calamities, illness, misfortunes and all sorts of up downs in life come and go but the major span of our lives is still free from these. To reinforce this view, just look at children and you would be able to grasp the concept immediately. Self esteem is the basic foundation on which our lives are founded and we know what happens without it.Psychologists just try to restore it back, whenever needed.Incidentally, what's so great about living with negativity ?Why wouldn't any normal person like to live his/her life in a natural state? If you still want to freak it out and be miserable,be my guest and do it.

there is always a reason to be happy... why would you desire to be unhappy?
low self esteme, etc is usually a result of being unhappy for extended periods of time.
if you are happy, even for "no reason," then you are still happy and goal is achieved. if your goal is to be unhappy then you have deeper problems than self esteme.
there is also a diffeence between being happy and feeling normal/accepted.
a gruesom sideshow freak may feel admitingly different and out of place, but at the same time may be completly happy(possibly because they have found a way to make money with what most people would call a deformity).
negativity is a result of how you percieve what is happening to you. what is happening to you is not what is negative.

That is what people go to a psychologist for. You pay to work out your issues. It's not like shrinks are walking the streets trying to boost the self-esteem of strangers!

They don't, they try to boost self esteem when they see a reason for you to be happy the way you are.

Well just because someone else can see you as a good person even though you can't doesn't mean they can't try to pass on that information to you.
Some people are capable of having self esteem even though they have problems. Perhaps they're hoping you are one of those people.

no, psychologists don't do that...their work is merely to clear out your queries and answer your questions and observe your behavior...making the patient happy is not really a part of the job

being happy is just a choice.
it is not what happens to you that matters only how you react to it. everything is for the best in all possible worlds.
