I'm 21, and a junior in college. Things are going well for me. Too well maybe. I'm getting straight A's in all my classes, I'm making lots of new friends this semester, I've joined a lot of new clubs at school. I work at a hotel about 25 hours a week. I'm so busy that I hardly ever have any time to myself once I'm done with work, school, and homework. I'm happy, single, and loving life--I always have. But in the free time I do get, I often find myself thinking, "is this all there is?" "I want more." But I don't know what it is I want "more of"

I don't know why I keep feeling "bored" with life. Or why I'm questioning if there "is more". Maybe things are going so well that I couldn't imagine things "being better". Has anyone else felt this? Is there anything to do about it? Maybe I just need something else to think about.

I believe that you are looking for challenge and since everything in your life is wonderfully falling in place as of now, you miss the feeling of taking on an uncertainty, which is what a challenge is.

We hate uncertainty and all the time strive to create pockets of certainties to feel comfort... however, we lose enthusiasm and zeal when in total comfort... so we look for and even invent new challenges for ourselves to feel fully involved in our life. It is in fact the work of our ego and self-pride which wants us to be taking up new challenges all the time.

With this view, I would not suggest you to unnecessarily invent any hobby..... I think you should pick up some purposeful activity that challenges your capabilities. Another way could be to give up your hotel job which perhaps does not satisfy you as being purposeful, and instead take up some other part time occupation like, may be coaching juniors or work with some non-profit welfare organization.

Trust this helps you take your life forward beyond the reasonable success you are already experiencing.

I recognize this. This happens when you've been thinking about the next thing you have to do. Say while doing one thing you had the thought "Oh I'll have even more fun here, or it'll be an even better experience over here" That place being wherever you have to go next and you always place that of higher value than enjoying the moment. That's why you're always looking for something better and something greater. What you really need to start looking into is enjoying the moment as it is and basking in it. Enjoying the people, enjoying your schedule, enjoying your positive interactions with one another. After that make sure your direction is headed towards your loves in this life, because that the only way you'll be as happy as you could be in your life and your career and so on. Enjoy the moment and for a while forget what's next. Then all of the wanting more will cease and you'll have just enough right now.

You may need better stimuli... better conversation to bring about new ideas... when you go into more advanced classes you may meet more interesting people! Or maybe you suffer from the "no satisfaction effect"... hahaha! that is another issue.
Yes... you are at an age when many people feel that same way. You will find your way soon... Keep your mind open! Give yourself a little more personal time! Too many clubs can hamper your R&R. A very important, if not the most important, part of life...! It is in the pleasures of being and doing that life flowrishes! Seize the day, but don't let the day seize you!!!

Yes- I use to feel like that now I have found the more I as looking for. Actually everyone is looking for real happiness, but in this world it is all temporary and a hard struggle to get it. In a nut shell-
We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies.
This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, due to envying Gods position so he made this word so we could try to live seperate from Him. The rest of the living beings are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships iin the Eternal World with our Maker named above. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) Which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for diliverance from suffering and illusion) which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can return to the eternal Kingdom where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy.Otherwise one has to come back to the material world life after life trying to find some material happiness, which never satisfies oneself fully.
For info. Go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita- As it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada asitis.com you can read it on line.

College is a pretty selfish time in life -- and that's a good thing -- but I found that volunteering a few hours a week helped me get outside myself a little, and that felt good. Not that you really have time for that. Is your job in your future field? Or is it just for money? If it's just for money, finding a job that is something you love and want to do might help you feel more passionate about life, which seems to be the missing link. Best wishes.

You are an intelligent girl. Things in this world can never satisfy our human nature. Our heart is made with a vacuum like. A heart that is longing for something else - more of something - what?
God designed us this way - He is The only one who can fill that void, that vacuum like. No man can fill it either! When we find Him, and have a relationship with Him - He fills us with His joy, His peace, He guides us - Gives meaning to life. We are no longer alone.
I was there once ... longing for something - when I turned to Him - my life took a 180 degree change = for the best. The only regret I have is not calling on Him any sooner - My life would have been different - I would not have made all the mistakes I made!
Just consider Him - He is like a daddy who is having His arms open to you, awaiting for you to run to Him. You'll never be sorry you did.

This is where curiousity or an imagination come into play. Your plate seems pretty full now, but after college is when the fun starts. You get into a career that pays well. Unfortunately, money equates to fun these days. You have to find something you're passionate about, something that makes you feel alive, something you have to do every day it seems.

Start experimenting now and find a hobby. This could be recreational sex, sky diving, race car driving, bottle cap collecting. This is never just IT. It's just what you let yourself amount to. If you're bored, you're uninteresting. Don't become uninteresting.

Regards,

Brandon

Welcome to the world, girl friend...

Glad you could finally join us...

And no...

This is all there is...

...you go to work...to get the money...to buy the food and stuff and recreation and toys you want...to get the strength to survive and the purpose...to go to work...to get the things you want... to get the strength and purpose to survive...to go to work...

And on and on it goes until the day you die...(unless you include retirement...which is really what you'll be working to accomplish most of your life...

But look at it this way...

It's better than being homeless, in jail, or dead...

Which are the only other options available...unless you think being a wandering gypsy is better than homeless...but it amounts to the same thing...you're just a traveling homeless person...
