Having erections while asleep pretty much rules out a physical cause. The psychological state of the person is an extremely big factor because, the body is made in such a way that sexual arousal only occurs in a comfortable or "safe" environment. This promotes bonding between partners and also promotes survival. Imagine the discomfort if a man keeps getting sexually aroused while engaged in highly dangerous activities like being chased by wild animals. That man would probably not survive very long.

If physical causes are ruled out, the mind has everything to do with getting (or not getting) an erection. Anxiety, a bad experience, a traumatic event in your past, or even lack of confidence could be the cause of impotence.

Huge

Most ED is stress related and easily treated with drugs

you will hear about many men that take viagra or cialis only when they feel they need it (after a hard stressful day)
