Ok so I know that Neo cons are basically pro Bush, does that mean they are democrats or Republicans, Liberal or Labour ? The translation in Australia is exactly the opposite of our American counterparts ! ie, here Labour are anti war radicals and "Liberals" are pro Government and John Howard, even George Bush. What does "Neo con " stand for ? Abbreviation of what....? Sorry for my ignorance, but i don't have the patience to work it out !

Hah! Anybody can be a neocon and often is. It is not exclusive to the Republican party, although they have found themselves a nice little niche there, like cuckoos who have edged true conservatives out into the cold.
Neocon ideologues are ex-Trotskyite Vietnam War draft-dodgers(the only war they could actually have fought in and the only U.S. war they hate). After the end of the Cold War and the disappearance of the Soviet Union as the OTHER super-power, neoconservative thinkers tapped into a 19th century American doctrine called Manifest Destiny, which is basically a philosophy that grants the U.S. a providential or supranatural right to expand its borders and/or its Way of Life ad infinitum. Also known as American Exceptionalism, it is a quasi-religious sentiment that is a foundational myth of our country-that we are somehow more blessed than other nations and therefore uniquely qualified to be a force for Good.
Manifest Destiny was responsible for the genocide of the native American Indian tribes, the invasion of Mexico and the theft of the southwestern territories, the Spanish American War of 1898 ,the slaughter of over 250,000 Filipinos between 1899 and 1902 in order to bring them democracy, the entry of the U.S. into WW I and,25 years later, the nefarious and criminal sacrifice of Pearl Harbour,Guam and the Philippines as expendable pawns, to get us into a world war (again!!) in Europe so that the U.S. could take its ¨rightful¨place on the world stage and dictate events. All good little neocons love FDR and Woodrow Wilson, both Democrats,so you see, it has nothing to do with partisan politics and everything to do with believing that the U.S. has a messianic mission to save the world from itself and to impose democracy on nations- whether they want it or not, whether they deserve it or not and whether they are ready for it or not.
As former Trotskyites they now see that the U.S. is the sole superpower in the world, the only nation capable of imposing a global hegemonic rule,a permanent Pax Americana sustained by endless war. Needless to say, endless war will also mean endless spending - another charming neoCONservative idiosyncracy.

Neoconservatism is the political philosophy that emerged in rejection of liberalism and the New Left counter-culture of the 1960s. It was formulated in the 1950s, achieved its first victory in Barry Goldwater's nomination as the Republican presidential candidate in 1964 and coalesced in the 1970s.
It influenced the Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and the George W. Bush presidential administrations, representing the re-alignment in American politics, and the defection of "an important and highly articulate group of liberals to the other side." One accomplishment was "to make criticism from the Right acceptable in the intellectual, artistic, and journalistic circles where conservatives had long been regarded with suspicion."

I'm glad you agree. No Socialism. Let's be sure that doesn't happen, including what President Bush did. No more socialism. Folks, do you notice how one poster defends it, another denies it, anhother says, "It's only a little socialism, what are you afraid of?" I've heard it for forty years. Enough nonsense. This is their last stand. After this, socialism is dying. Either they succeed in these four years, or it's over because they have SERIOUSLY overreached themselves. I want my party back. Send the socialist back to their own party. No socialist nation has EVER supported the freedoms my party fought for, ever. If you doubt that socialism is alive and well, simply go back and check the history of the Socialist Party of American and their plans for the Democrat Party (my party). They said they'd use it as their face to America. Some of us have been pointing to it and warning you ever since.

Basically, a "neo-con" is someone who says they're conservative but who's actions and beliefs are not very conservative at all.
