Can police tap cell phones?

I know they can do land lines, but how do they do cells and how can you tell if your phone is being tapped?

Its a High Frequency scanner that a cop can just flip through and listen to conversations in the vicinity the scanner is picking up. Your next door neighbor might have this type of scanner anyone can do it. But I did read a story where the Bureau eavesdrops on Mob cell phones and other organized criminals. Even if the phone is off but with the battery in the phone they can trigger a signal to pick up the mic, so you have to take the battery out the phone to not be heard. Technology,.aint it a B%TC#?

Yes they can tap a cell phone. The term 'tap' refers to old style tapping wherein one would literally splice a physical 'tap' into a physical wire. Nowadays it's all electronic. The cops MAY not tap anything without a court warrant. They must present the judge with evidence that you are up to something. They don't have to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt yet, but it also has to be more than just probably cause.

Yes they can, and it doesn't leave the tell-tale clicks you hear on a land-line. Actually, anyone can fairly easily with an old UHF TV antenna and the TV set to the right channel, as they use the same frequency. However, doing so is illegal, just as it would be for the cops to tap your phone without a court order.

Are you kidding? They can watch your house from a computer, whose coming and going. A tap can be put on any phone, (if they fill they need too). Cell phones records and conversation are easily obtained, so tapes most of the time are not needed. They can obtain those records if need be. Prepaid phones however are different, they can't trace records. You can buy a system from Sharper Image Store,( it's not expensive), you put inside of your phone and it will detect if you are being bugged. Good luck!

they dont need to tap, cell signals are in the air, all they need is the equipment not even a judges permission like a wire tap.

They don't have to tap your cellphone, they can actually turn on your speaker and listen to conversations you have while not on the phone. Crazy but true.

since cell phones broadcast open signals into the air, which is considered public domain, anyone can monitor your cell pnone calls. This includes law enforcement.
