Am a guy in mid 20s. Would really like to do it right and surprise my girlfriend. I'm not really constrained by cost.

If you really want to go all out, then I'd suggest finding a store in your area that caters to cross-dressers & when you go there tell them what you have in mind. I'm sure they will be more than willing to help you become the girl of your dreams.

To 'do it right' you have to have the total experience.
I'm sure you could find some other girl-friends to help you with this if you haven't a sister - perhaps even your mum??

* Go the whole way, shave arms, legs, chest etc
* A thong won't work, so go for panties
* Of course, a bra. Tissue sort of works, but balloons filled with jell-o (jelly if you're in the UK), or rice works better as you'll get some idea of weight and your breasts will bounce a bit too.
* Don't forget the pantyhose - stockings and suspenders if you're going for a tarty look
* Wear a pair of heels

As for buying your outfit, just be honest with the sales assistants: who are they to judge you - they want their commission!!

You'll probably need to get used to the bra beforehand, especially if you're going to use the jell-o method as you'll need to get the mix and size right.,
Get some practice in with the heels too!

The rest of the outfit depends very much on your build
* If you're well built you'll not want to show off your muscles so wear a loose blouse with sleeves and a longer skirt. A-line and gypsy skirts can give an impression of hips!
* If you're slim, you can wear almost anything. Try a nice halter-neck dress or a mini-skirt with layered top.

If you've short hair, you'll probably need a wig

Don't forget to get your make-up done - that includes nails (get some stick-ons if yours are short)!! If cost is not an issue use your local hair and nail parlour

If you're just doing this for a party in the evening then I've added some costume ideas if you need a theme.

If you're going to spend the day with your girlfriend, why not mke a complete day of it and do whatever your girlfriend would do that day - drive down to tha mall, shop, take in a movie etc. For the day you could wear 'standard' girl clothes during the day; jumper, skirt, boots (it'll be cold) and then change for parties in the evening.

Here are some different characters with a halloweeen / magic theme for the parties...

* Morticia Adams - she's quite skinny in the films, but the dress gives you a chance to cover up if necessary

* Sabrina (the teenage witch). Great if you've got the legs as mini skirt required for this one!

* Hermione Granger or Ginny Weasly from the Harry Potter films. More a 'schoolgirl' theme here but still Haloween associated - grey pleated skirt, blouse and sweater. Add a gown or cape for 'school robes' and a pointed hat if you want
(Henrietta (the Worst Witch) also comes in this catagory)

* The Bride of Frankenstein - wedding dresses can be great!

And even at a pinch..

* Thelma or Daphne from Scooby Doo (get your girlfriend a 'Shaggy' or 'Fred' character costume)

If your suit jacket size is 40R or less, you can go to Victoria's Secret for a bra fitting. The sales assistants are helpful for Halloween. Also, get some stockings there too. Wear panties.

For a dress or skirt & blouse outfit and heels, you can make an appointment with a Nordstrom Personal Shopper. They are willing to assist you. If you jacket size is greater than 40R, you can buy your lingerie via the personal shopper at Nordstrom.

When you get your heels, you should practice a couple of hours a day before the party. If you going to be wearing the costume for more than two hours, you should wear the bra at home a couple hours each day before the party to break it in. Also, you can stuff the bra with socks.

Make up, you can go toa MAC store for advice and selection after you have the outfit. This will give them a better idea to find suitable make up for the costume.

Wig, you can buy it at a wig store. The cost is the same as in a costume store but the quality is better at the Wig store.
