this is an extra credit question so why is a chandelier called a chandelier?

Chandel is French for candle, and old contraptions used to hold clusters of them retained their name when candles were replaced by electric lights.

The word Chandelier came from the Old French term chaundeler which means candlestick which is used as the source of light.

To distinguish it from a badger. Many injuries were caused before they devised different words for these two items.
