Add to that the fact that you've spent $200 on the thing. I have my opinion on the subject but I wonder if anyone can answer that for me?

maybe this should be in the psych section

The dumbest question I have read yet. Idiot. Add to the fact that replica jerseys don't cost $200.

Well it's like this. They call them replica jerseys but we feel they are real. That we are actually the player, in the game. See, on days my arm feels good I'll wear my roethlisberger jersey, and on days I feel fast I'll wear my Ward or Parker jersey. I also wear a jersey to match my family because my wife and 4 year old daughter wear one. The ladies just love them. They think you're the player too. And you know how some ladies love jocks, some love money, and some want fame. So all around its a good purchase even if you are an idiot and pay $200 for a replica jersey. Maybe a authentic jersey, but not a replica, at any rate I hope you are now dumber after reading this.

I'm a grown woman but I suppose I can answer. It's usually a sign of your favorite current player (like Aramis Ramirez) or a past player that you admire and respect (like Ernie Banks). Normally worn to games to show support but also fun to wear in public to let everyone know who ya love.

Besides the #1 reason of supporting the team, I love wearing mine out because they spark up conversation with strangers. I've never worn a Cubs shirt out and not had some comment from a stranger or heard a holler across the parking lot "CUBBIES!" It's just fun. If I'm wearing a Zambrano shirt, I might get something like "Man, Big Z was on fire the other day!"

So to sum it up, I think it's just a fun way to support the team. (Which I think is a lot more logical than wearing a shirt with "Hilfiger" blasted all over the front to support...some old rich guy.)

For his 66th birthday, my "grown man" husband is getting a replica jersey with his favourite player's name and number on the back, as well as a humorous one (same player) and a "bundle offer" of a black team tee-shirt with a gray hooded team sweatshirt. I have yet to find a cap that I know he likes.

Bargain prices! The SFGiants may have been the bottom of the pile this year, so the clearances are great! Besides, they'll come back. GO GIANTS!

Sporting events, ultimately, are ephemeral events. The teams and the traditions endure, but the games themselves are here and gone. Having a jersey is a way to hold onto a moment of it. I have a couple of jerseys of players from teams I follow. Civic pride has something to do with it, as do the excellence of the players. Either these things touch something in you or they don't...if a game is just a game to you, you won't understand it, but if you relate to the team and the players as part of your community and part of your life i some way then it is meaningful. Just don't impose your meaning onto everyone else, because it may not be the same.

It's fun to go to the games and have a jersey like the player you like most has. It just adds to the experience. I guess you won't wear Ralph Lauren he has his name all over his clothes. Also jersey's only cost $75.00 You can't be to much of a fan or you wouldn't be asking.

I didn't pay $200 for a replica, but I did get an authentic one for $250ish...(LT) oh yeah, and I'm a woman. I figure if its my money and my back, I can wear whatever I want to wear! If you don't agree...so be it. Don't judge anyone else for their choice in attire. Lots of people where other mens name on their clothes: Sean John, Ecko, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, Georgio Armani, Oscar Delaurenta...and the list goes on. Dude...get a klue!
