Michael Jackson - mainly b/c he was the musical influence for MOST male, female singers that are popular today (Chris Brown, T Pain, Beyonce, JT, and many others). One could argue P. McCartney is also a king of "Pop." But I think most agree it's MJ, for better or for worse, lol....

Michael Jackson gave himself the title in 1991 after the release of his "Dangerous" album. This was the beginning of his downfall. He released a video for the song "Black Or White" which offended many people and the songs on the album itself weren't as strong as those as his earlier releases.
