Sure, there were problems back then just like there're problems now, yet I feel there was a bit more respect for them, cause in the long run they earned it and the men were more than willing to give it. Just my honest opinion..

Ever heard the legal terms: "Choses in Action", and "Choses in Possession"? Well that is how most Men treated Women. As either goods, or chattels: property.
The "Theory of Cognitive Dissonance" postulates that the human mind will involuntarily reject any information, concept, idea or theorem which are fundamentally dissimilar to those hitherto encountered. Most modern Men are astute enough to be able to contradict this process.
Put simply: Men's attitudes towards Women have changed in favour of equanimity, egality and equality because We have learned to change Our way of thinking about 'what', rather than 'who' Women actually are.

I have not being around before then ,but I have heard that women were not is important in viewing their opinions in politics ,they didn't even have the right to vote!

But other then that women were treated with respect because they were ladies compare to the women of today that somewhat lost their femininity for the woman right movement. What amuses me is that they want to be equal is the men in every aspect of life ,but when it comes to be lady like ,some leave much to be desired!
