looking for an online trading platform do all of them have a min. balance or can i start with a $1 if i wanted

I think there is a min. balance required

Minimum balance is required but very low
but
for trading not possible with $1. one should have the part of capital for margin trading or full amount for long on shares, part for option/future

Take a year before you open a brokerage account. Save some additional money and read several books. This will ultimately save you thousands in the future.
