I am a thirteen year old girl who is starting new vocal instruction classes at the end of the week. My new vocal teacher (who i have never met before so she has never heard my voice before) is probably going to want to hear me sing. What should I sing. I have an extremely wide range, but i prefer a high song so I can show her that I can hit high notes. What should I sing?

Your new vocal teacher will likely have you do some vocal exercises first and that will give her a very good idea on where you're at. She will be able to hear your range, quality, breathing, and what you need to work on. As for songs, what style do you sing? In all honesty it's really better that you discuss this with her. You can of course tell her if you have a goal such as a certain song you'd like to sing or role that you wish to play, but she will guide you through so that you don't rush into anything that will harm your voice.

She may have some great suggestions and an awesome collection of sheet music :-)

congrats on the lessons!

You have a very wide range of options here. Usually in a class like that, the teacher will give you a piece to sing for her. You will probably just have to sing a few bars of it, and the teacher will probably expect you to sight read most of it. Unless the instructions for the class specifically asks you to prepare an audition song, dont bother. It would just be more stressfull. trust me, I'm 13 and i'm kind of just starting this, but already i have done enough of the theatre classes and that stuff, to know what to expect.

You sound EXACTLY like me a year ago when I started I ended up not needing a song but better safe then sorry. The best higher rangy song is definately "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" is from Andrew Lloyd Webbers Musical Phantom of the Opera. I sang it for my voice recital.

"Tomorrow" from the musical "Annie" is always a great audition song for girls. You know, "The Sun will come up tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there'll be sun......

I love that song.
