Well, my memory isn't always the greatest but I think he did some experiments with preserving food. He actually iced down a chicken and found that it was still edible a few days later. He supposedly caught a cold and died from being out in the snow doing these experiments.

Weird thing to think about when his name is mentioned but then hard telling what lasting affects I have from from the 60's
