I am around 6 weeks pregnant. I have had 2 positive home tests and am going to the doctor on Friday. I wanted to start taking prenatal vitamins (had a recent miscarriage) but I am getting mixed answers on whether I should take them yet or not. I was told they can cause a miscarriage if there is too much iron? I live in Canada and bought Life brand prenatal vitamins...has anyone tried these? Should I start taking them or wait for the doctor's ok? Thanks for your help

Taking prenatal vitamins is NOT going to cause a miscarriage. Most doctors will give you a prescription for vitamins, but if they make you sick, they will recommend taking something like Flinstones Vitamins twice a day, which is what I do, along with a Folic Acid pill. I've had to take straight iron pills through every pregnancy. The person who told you that was mistaken. Taking one prenatal a day is not going to hurt you or the baby.

Congrats!

The difference between prenatal vitamins and other multi vitamins is the amount of folic acid which babies need for brain development. All books I've read and doctors I've talked to have said that a woman should take prenatal vitamins before, during and after pregnancy. I wouldn't worry about them causing a miscarriage

The OTC ones are purely as stable with the aid of fact the prescribed ones. The OTC ones have all of the supplements which you and infant want. The prescribed ones often have slightly greater supplements in them. So the two way your stable. i'm getting the only an afternoon prenatal supplements, $13 for a month furnish. no you should take prenatals, but i would let the doctor perscribe them for you. if you dont want to wait call and ask if they can recommended a kind or ask a pharmacist. prenatals will not cause a miscarriage. that is silly. pre-natals are so good for your baby, and you too. the sooner you take them the better :) congrats!

I highly doubt that prenatal vitamins are a risk to your child. They can only help (well th ycan cause constipation too). I took them before i was pregnant , during and even after. LOVED THEM!!

i know lots of woman who take them just as a multi vitamin. i think your okay to take them. they wouldn't be called "prenatal" vitamins if they were going to harm your baby in any way. they don't cause miscarriages, they promote health. if you are really concerned though...you should just ask your doctor about it.

My doctor actually gave me vitamins when I went in for the pregnancy test. I forgot what brand it was but I have been using Target Brand and it has the same vitamins and minerals in it.Maybe you should wait to ask your doc. Better to be safe, right?

Expectant mothers need more iron. The regular recommended dosage for iron for pregnant women is about 27mg per day. Just read the bottle label and compare.
