If it's dirty people will wonder what's going on. You'll probably get ticketed for no apparent reason. You'll be questioned by Japanese police.
If it's clean, they'll think you're just some freak. There are a lot of fanatics in Japan. You can find one for just about anything. There's got to be at least one guy in Japan who's a Ford Explorer fanatic, who has magazines about them, who knows all about them, who has pictures of them on his wall at home. Finally he saved up his money and got one.
Mostly people mind their own business. You won't get the looks you might be hoping for.

It would be fine. An Explorer isn't really any larger than some 4X4s that are popular in Japan like the Nissan Patrol, 80 Series Landcruiser and Mitsubishi Pajero. Like the other answers says, somewhere in Japan there's some guy who lives the Ford Explorer lifestyle.

Well, I have to say that hte streets arenarrow and difficult to maneuver, (and you areon the opposite sideof the street as well!), but i have seen crazy stuff.
persoanlly, I walk everywhere and now live in Seoul. I did not drive when I lived in yokohama either, and that was much more navigatable than Tokyo.
My old friend now has a Hummer..
i don't think people look at him funny.. I think they snicke rbehind his back. I love the Hummer... but more so when I livei n the Us than here in Asia.
By the way, part of the reason we skciker is that he is spendinghis children's inheritance on the PRICE OF GAS!
(which, in comparison, makes US gas look FREE!)

Good look fitting down those tiny streets. Have you ever tried parking in Japan? You might want to rethink this.

I don't think so. Some Japanese drive Explorer. However, you can't bring it from the US. The emission and modification regulations befween Japan and the US are different.

While driving would be possible parking might be a bit tricky as the spots are likly aimed toward smaller japanise vehicles unless you are driving a pre-76 explorer your not getting it on the island due to japanise import embargos see link.

Yes, they don't like american cars. It would pollute their atmosphere because they are driving advanced hybrid cars.
