I'm 20 years old, and I had a lot of heart problems I was born with in my child hood. Now I have a pacemaker. I worry a lot that I'm going to die. How can I stop worrying?

We are all going to die. Some seemingly healthy people die very young. People with chronic conditions may take better care of themselves and live longer than they or anyone else expect.

First, you need to have a really honest talk with your doctor. Tell the doctor about your fears and ask for a 100% straightforward assessment of your condition. If it's not as grave as you thought, that might help. If the news is not so good, or if you still are worried even if the news is not too bad, ask for the doctor's opinion about whether or not you might be depressed. Depression is treatable, and asking for help is not shameful!

If the doctor tells you certain things to do -- diet, exercise, etc -- to strengthen your heart, do them!

Yes, hobbies are good, and living each day to the fullest is always a good idea, since none of us know how many days we have left. But there may be things the doctor can do to make this positive approach easier. Ask. And be proactive about improving your health, physical and emotional, in every way possible.

Good luck!

You should talk to your doctor and see the death rates of people with your condition. You might be surprised that the number is very low.
Then, find something you love to do, no matter what it is. If you have a lot to live for, you won't have time to think about dying.
Good luck and all the best towards a long, happy life.

Get a doctors appointment so you can be reassured that everything is alright. Then have him get you on an anxiety medicine to help you with your worrying. Worrying only adds extra stress on your body.
