My boyfriend is getting really stressed out and trying to make better of himself. How can someone get a job if they are making attempts in trying to make themself better if everyone keeps shutting him down? Look for jobs in the state of MN. Any advice or help will be very much appriciated! Thanks!

Depends on what he was convicted for. Stealing usually rules out retail jobs. Drug possession will rule out lots of jobs as well. Any felony will rule out working with children.

Construction trades (plumber, carpenter, electrician, etc) will be a bit more accessible for him. Auto mechanic jobs will be a possibility. Chef or food processing (Green Giant possibly?) might be another option.

This is a classic case of convicted felons continuing to pay for their mistakes long after they have paid back society.

There is most likely an issue of "trust" your boyfriend will have to deal with for the rest of his life. Those are the consequences of committing crime in America and people are very cautious about giving felons a second chance because it is perceived they can't be trusted.

When in prison, the felon typically learns the finer tools of the trade and becomes a better criminal...better at breaking the law. These lessons learned in prison along with society not forgiving past transgressions makes the chances of your boyfriend going back to a life of crime is greatly increased.

The premise of going to prison during the past 30 or so years has been trying to reform the prisoner. Instead, prisons have become the university of learning the tricks of the trade.

Your boyfriend has much to overcome and he will have to be persistent looking for a job. He will encounter many job application rejections in addition to many laws in the various states prohibit him from having some jobs.

My neighbor has a gangsta boyfriend who has been fighting the battle as well. According to her, there are Temp agencies that do not do background checks... I'm in CA so I don't know if this is fact in MN. The construction trade may be an option. It's hardwork and it depends on what you know, and who you know. MN is pretty progressive in a lot of things. See if there are any county type agencies that are designed to help folks get back on their feet through training programs, etc. Best of luck to you.

This will take time. You can't expect people to forget about a felony overnight.

He will just have to take what he can get, and do his job good. His hard work will be rewarded with promotion or raises, and if not, he can use that job as a reference for his next one.

There is no quick fix, just hard work and time.

This is a chance to prove himself. If he doesn't want to put in the hard work, that explains why he is a felon.
