Usually in the 7th month or later. Usually mom is feeling better, but not so big and uncomfortable yet.
Ultrasounds to determine the sex are usually done at week 18 or later, so by the 7th month she will know.
But ultrasounds can sometimes be wrong!

I am 22 weeks along right now, and my sister is going to throw me my shower. She had waited until she was 8 months to have hers....but since I am due in Feb. (snowy snowy) here, I asked to have mine more along 7 months. I think 7 months is a good time because its close enough to the birth, you usually know the sex, and labor really isnt a HUGE issue. My sister was so uncomforatble at her shower (8-9 months) and she ended up popping a week later!!!! So...I would aim for 7 months, or whenever you want?!?! Who care what is normal...do what you think will be best for you.(or the person). Take care~
Finding out if its a boy or girl........I just found out what I was having at 20 weeks...so usually she would know WAY before he shower. If they cant tell though...which is a huge possibility...Im not sure?? Take care and best of luck!!
(I read that question wrong earlier. lol)

most people throw a baby shower around five month's but for my second one i had it at 8 and a half which was much better because i didn't have a whole bunch baby stuff in the way that i wasn't going to need or open for another four month plus i knew by then what to keep and what to take back and that gave me something to do while i waited to go into labor i could hang around the stores and shop with my gift cards and take something back all in the while keeping my mind off the growing pains in my tummy which keep me for running back and forth to the hospital for false labor. also a great tip don't open anything until after the baby's born you'll know what you need as you go on and you can take the use less stuff back to store and exchange it for more diapers and or milk ( the hospital usually sends you home with the bare necessity's until you can get this done) and about finding out if it's a boy or girl she'll have to wait until she at least five month for an ultra sound but the only for sure way to find out what the baby is birth. which is another good reason for my tip.

About 7 months. My uncles gf had her baby shower planned at 8 months but went into early labor and actually had her kid before the shower! Kind of bad for her because she put off buying some things because she didnt want to have doubles in case she got those things at her shower. And my uncle was fixing up their apartment and thought he had another month to do it so she had to live with her mom for a while until he had it ready.

For once, the best time to me, from seeing other people have babies, and myself... is to do it around the 7th month. This way you know for "sure" as well as you ever will about the sex of the baby. There is nothing worse than getting a lot of presents you can't use or getting a ton of multiples that you can't use, because you didn't know the sex. Also, I wouldn't wait later than the 7th month, in case of early pregnancy. That way if she does have one, she will have some stuff to get her settled and not be in an "oh my gosh, I don't have anything" state after a stressful time, having an early baby. Good luck!

I would recommend waiting at least until after the first three months are over because that is when miscarriages are more likely. It is usually done in the seventh or eighth month where I came from. If she does find out, put the info on the invite so people know to buy pink or blue.

the "normal" time for a baby shower is 7 or 8 months. not the 9th month because the mommy can get so excited about her gifts that she could go into labor!! you can find out the sex at about 20 weeks.
