I would never do such thing. Someone n my class said she would do that and "get away with it" because frogs aren't "conventional pets". Is this true, or the law applies to any animal (even ones that aren't pets or ones in zoos)?

Put yourself in the place of the frog. May seem like a joke, but seriously, would you want someone to stomp out your @$$ in an instant?

If you wouldn't mind being stomped out, then it's not abuse.

To understand the situation better, always try to consider both sides.

Well it can depend waht kind of toads and frogs you are talking about. The longest frog jump on record measured 33 feet 5.5 inches. It was made by a frog named Santjie at a frog derby held in South Africa. (This Kind of Frog would beat a Toad any day beacause it can jump so far) The average frog that people see are about 1.5 inches long and they can jump about 30 inches or 2.5 feet per leap and the toad that people usual see can jump about 1 foot per jump or 12 inches. Frogs I think might be faster but toads might be pretty close because they take short quick little jumps. Like I said it would depend on the type of Frog or Toad.

What sick person would ever even think of doing something like that???? In her next sorry life she should be a toad and someone step on her. If you kill animals in zoos you will go to jail. There are laws protecting animals from idiots like that girl in your class except there is no laws protecting the average frog/toad because the normal person would not even think of stomping on them. I would stay away from her if I were you, people who kill animals of anykind usually grow up to be mean nasty people who abuse children or even kill.

There have been cases brought to court over fish that were tortured, so 'legally' animal abuse IS animal abuse regardless of what animal or creature it's done to. Abuse is the deliberate infliction of pain and suffering, death included.

You can have a formal complaint filed against you for stomping frogs if someone is appaled by your behavior. Using frogs as bait for bass fishing would be allowed, but doing something so crass as stomping just to kill something would get you either nailed upside the head by someone ticked off at you, or possibly even filing a police complaint. Yes, it could stand up in court.

Its mean and horrible, but no it would not be considered animal abuse legally. Just as feeding mice and rats to pet snakes isnt. Animal abuse is when you are knowingly starving, beating, torturing, neglecting an animal that relies on you to take care of it, which if the frog was your pet i guess would constitute that, but it would be pretty hard to prosecute you stepping on your frog or flushing your live fish down the toilet. Although, if someone had a whole house full of neglected animals, lizards, rabbits, things like that, they may be able to press charges from the large quantity.

If you're asking legally, then get a lawyer to answer.

If you're asking morally, its fair to say that if someone gets into the habit of stomping on critters, it can (not automatically, but CAN) easily develop into more serious stuff. Today, someone might think squashing froggie's ok, a while later, it could be the neighbors dog, and I don't want to follow it too far...

I read of a case of some super-bored teens who beat up and killed an old woman "for the fun"... and yes.. it started with torturing small, insignificant animals. That doesn't mean that everyone will fall into the same shithole... but it should make thinking people stop and wonder.....

If it is a pet or owned by a zoo, circus, pet store, etc, it is private property and you can be charged with destruction of private property. Note to pet owners: all animals owned by you are considered property-not family members.

Now, if you stomp on a toad or frog and kill it instantly with one stomp; then it is not animal abuse. If you have to stomp multiple times then it might be considered abuse. If you stomp on it only to cripple said animal, then it is clearly a case of animal abuse.

Your friend is a sadist and an idiot. Harming any living thing for sport or personal enjoyment (getting away with it) is sick and incredibly mean. I would not trust anyone who would be that mentally ill and cruel. This isn't 'funny' or cute. It is mean, and on the lowest possible level. This has nothing to do with law, this has to do with caring and common sense. Your friend is a major bone head. Stay away from her. If she is this careless about life, she would be willing to mean things to people too. Avoid her.

this is actually a good legal question, it is animal abuse, however in most states unless it is inhumane such as dog fighting, it is not illegal because they are not considered domesticated animals. You can kill many livestock in just about any manner all because they are not domesticated animals. for example horses who are slaughtered because they are not money producers any longer
