Well, Superman was created in to 1950's-1960's or something like that so they really didn't have many problems with the Middle East or Africa. Their only problem was the Soviet Union. Today, his powers could be used in other areas and whatever but the writers back then were trying to plan Clark Kent's next plan to bring down Lex Luthor.

Superman came around during a time when the world was gearing up for the 2nd World War - he first showed up in 1938. America was at that time an isolationist country. England and France were still the top dogs in the world. America had come out of World War one and was just coming out of a terrible depression, as was Europe. America needed something to be proud of. No one knew that the American public would latch onto the comic book hero, but they did. He became an American Hero. I'm sure that in today's "politically correct" world, Superman would have shared his abilities. (Look at the X-men and the Fantastic 4 - aren't they world wide heroes?)

Superman saves lives all over the world and not just the folks in Metropolis but you have to actually watch the movies to see where he was at. What a stupid racist question this is. There are black people in both the comic books and in the movies ie, Superman 3 with Richard Pryor. I can not believe those who said he was a racist... what rubish, what trash,... to think that your ignorance darkens the reputation of one of Americas beloved Heros.... i am going to pose this question then... why does Iron Man only save Americans... or Captain Marval or the Fantastic Four...
I would have added Captain America but he was Assinated

He saves everybody, it's just that The Daily Planet being a Metropolis newspaper only is concerned with the local Superman heroics.

Didn't the new Superman movie have him saving people around the world when he 'returned'? They had news from Australia and Germany or something...

Because he's "SUPERMAN".
If he were concerned with the Middle East, he'd be Supermensch, and if he worried about Jamaica, he'd be Supermon.
Looks like they missed a lot of potential spinoffs, but there it is.

Well, it helps that he lives and works in America. But, if you had actually watched any kind of movie or show, you would know that he does save people all over the world. All you had to do was WATCH A MOVIE

Because he's American! Also, because he lives in a fictitious city, I'm guessing Metropolis is in an alternate Universe and people of color don't exist in that Universe, hence no Africans or Middle Easterners..LOL
