When Did People Start Caring About Illigal Immigrants?

Question

It seems like a few years ago, noone cared. They have always been around. Yet out of the blue, Immigration became a hot issue. What happened.

I have a feeling it is because of 9/11, but Mexicans have nothing to do with 9/11 so someone explain.

When they realized that they cost tax payers money, like for child healthcare and schools. I think we're all in this together though. I'd rather pay for schools and healthcare to benefit everyone for the future.

many people have always cared, but no one would listen. what made them start to listen? i have no idea. years ago, mexicans came to america and wanted to become americans. now it would appear that mexicans want to come to america to gain what they can and not take any responsiblility for the country. they want everyone to change to their way of doing things, make it easy for them. want americans to sacrifice for them, but they don't want to do any of the sacrificing. don't want to change their ways to become americans. yet so many immigrants from other countries were glad to embrace the american way of life not yell "i'm here and now do it my way, give me what i want." some one once said that south america speaks spanish so north america should give up english and speak spanish. do you know how many different dialects of spanish are spoken. some can't even understand their own language. i think the pushier illegal immigrants become, the more americans pay attention to them being in our country. when they truly care about america they wont be so pushy. then americans will probably lighten up.

granted, when they started realizing they were costing tax payers money. But I sure wouldn't want to pay for some illegals school and hospital , so in the future they take my job away because they'll work for anything. And they still won't have to pay taxes.

Probably since the public realised that some of us actually might not like us very much.

Conversely since people realised how badly they were treated.

-When the Government started warning Us that there were potential Terrorists behind every Bush (sometimes- literally), and all we could come up with, were illegal Mexican landscapers, farm hands & dishwashers..... :)
