In my senior year of high school, Trent Reznor (an alumni of my school) was to be inducted into the Academic Hall of Fame for his achievements in the music industry. However, parents and people on the school board tried desperately to take away his nomination because of his "controversial lyrics." Do you agree with them and think that his lyrics aren't something that was taught at a high school, or do you think that it shouldn't matter being that he did something great with his life, and is probably one of the most successful graduates from my school?

for those who are unaware of who Trent Reznor is he is the front man for the band Nine Inch Nails.

The controversy is in the minds of the people and parents that objected. He said what he felt was right and it resonates with his fans. They can screw off if they don't like it. They don't have to listen to NIN. Let him get the accreditation that he deserves.

I think the parents and members of the school board are jealous of his fame and ought to get their thumbs outta their asses. We want our kids to make something of themselves, do we not? Why not honor someone from the community who did become successful, regardless of how "controversial" his lyrics are?

Those stuffed shirts probably never even listened to a NIN song in their lives, so why are their panties in such a bunch anyway?

If his lyrics are on the raunchy side then no he should not receive any honors.

We have become a society where anything nasty and disgusting is OK. Someone make a nasty song and then want to argue that is music and they are expressing themselves. It isn't music it's a shame they would use such language in public. And I will not say anything about the idiots who buy it and allow their small children to listen to it. So no he doesn't deserve a reward for being vulgar.

He should get reconition. He's made it as an artist and his style doesn't suit everybody.
They should honor him!
Parents think they're protecting their kids by doing so but forget to encourage them to become their own person.

Unless he was to perform inappropriate material at the school, I see no problem.
