We acknowledged and entered the war against terror because of 9/11

We are fighting for the safety of our generations against a radical form of Islam which seeks to eliminate us because we do not follow their sect. It is deeply embedded within believers of this very radical form of the Islamic religion.

To gain? The right to believe in our own religion if we choose to believe in a religion. The right to choose, for example, not force our women to wear burkas or stone them.

I'm a patriot because I do not believe in the belittlement of a sitting president. I believe ex-presidents should not speak foul of our present administration outside of our country during a time of war. I believe Congress should not make lethal statements which put our military in harm's way. I believe US politicians need to stick together rather than ambitiously seek personal power.

The American Dream is that we are the purveyors of our own destiny. We are the goal setters. We work hard. We are MacGyvers. We have ingenuity, perseverance, diversity, and tolerance. We are the destination for most immigrants. We are the most successful country in the history of this planet. Try as we might to tear ourselves down, we cannot. We will stand, if we stand together.

Honestly, I could write a thoughtful intelligent answer to your questions. The resulting barrage of negative responses is, to me not worth it. No matter which side of the aisle you sit, it will always be the incorrect side. The only thing I can say is good for you for wanting answers and being interested in world affairs. Really, it all boils down to what you think, feel, and believe. Stay informed, read all you can, listen intently from all media sources. The Sunday morning political shows on the networks are great for getting information straight from the source, the politicians themselves. Best of luck.

"why did the war start?" The attacks of Sept 11!! Also, Saddam Hussein, who was a mad man, was torturing and killing his own people, someone had to stop it!!!

"what are we fighting for?"
Justice and Mercy!!

'what are we going to gain from all of this?"
Freedom, not only for ourselves, but for our brothers and sisters in Iraq also, who have not seen Freedom for many centuries!!!

"why are you a patriot of you are?"

For what? The war? Well, if you want freedom, and prosperity to rule at the end of the day, you can be considered a 'Patriot.'

"what are the opinions of this country we call America?"

The only way I can describe it to you is like this--Some people care for--i.e. the working families, for the Unborn children, for the sanctity of marriage, and for the most important reason--belief and serving an Almighty and loving God of Creation!!!

And others don't--they just simply don't because they are in the self-gratifying, anything goes, "who cares' mentality.

Now, you can decipher who that might be, for yourself.

Your question has numerous parts -most have been explained in detail many times.
The war started because after numerous terror attacks and threats against Americans all over the globe, the terrorists were emboldened by our ineffective responses and attacked us in New York.
We are fighting to try and stem this fanatical ideology of blood lust, hatred and domination.
Hopefully, we will gain better security and safety for the American people and all others who may fall victim to these terrorists if they are not confronted and defeated.
America stands on its own merits - in only a little over 200 years it has become a beacon of hope for millions and millions of oppressed people and the greatest nation the world has ever seen - and that's not too shabby, eh?

isn't there a coalition in Iraq? desire to verify what happens right here if all of the troops are pulled out? hundreds will die returned from sectarian violence and revenge. there'll be multi-national forces right here for the subsequent decade a minimum of, in spite of the preparation being given to Iraqi forces. All sectors are presently heavily infiltrated by using armed forces and revolt aspects. this is going to take time to weed them out till a solid middle of dedicated Iraqis proceed to be and attraction to extra who do no longer decide one yet another by using region, tribe or faith. And confident, help the efforts, yet coalition forces will proceed to die. in spite of the indisputable fact that this is easing somewhat. Pray it keeps.

Judging by the majority of your answers, most of us don't know why, or what this war is about.
"why are you a patriot if you are?" Not sure what you want there.

1)bush wanted to get revenge for his father and/or iraq's vast oil
2)we're not fighting for anything, the people fighting us there are basically just pissed iraqi's who want us to leave their country, same thing texans would do if soviets set up shop there
3)the bigger question is what are we going to lose
4)i don't believe following the failed policies of a failed president to be patriotic, quite the contrary
5)this is a great country that is going in the wrong direction and needs a change of course

As a anti-Bush American , I'm seen as non-patriotic, and that worries me greatly...We have a new generation whose watching and listening to us....let's show them that they have a choice, and not agreeing with there government isn't wrong....It's the people that matter...
