If you're too young to drink a beer, then you're also too young to die in a war. That's how I see it.

I agree!
Conversely, if you're old enough (at 18) to be drafted, you should be able to vote for the politicians who expect you to serve.
I find it preposterous that there's a 'legal' age for such things. Some people are mature enough at 16 to drink responsibly; others aren't able to drink responsibly at age 60.
I think you should be required to pass a test in order to be allowed to 'legally' drink, vote, drive or serve in the military.
If your psychological profile demonstrates that you have a modicum of maturity, you should be 'legal'. I'm 64 years old and I've never understood why governments believe it's okay to drink when you turn 21, but it's not okay to drink if you're 20 years, 364 days, and 12 hours old. It's a stupid way to monitor people's lives. -RKO- 10/09/07

No disrespect but your logic is flawed. First, there is no draft. There are no 18 year olds being forced into the military. There are however many 18 years old who get wasted on beer and then hit the road and kill someone. I was 18 once, I drank. I expect most 18 yo's to drink. But the age was increased for a reason. Too many high school seniors in bars with car keys not living to see 21. I'm all for less government, less control, more personal freedoms. But if that 21 drinking age stops some 18 year old with a matching BAC from slamming into your grill at 60 MPH, then I can't say I'm against it.

the diverse legislatures of the diverse states desperate to enact regulations that make it unlawful to drink alcoholic beverages decrease than the age of 21. This replace into accomplished decrease than duress of the federal government to standardize eating regulations by using the U. S.. If the states did no longer enact the regulation, federal monies could be withheld from that state. The criminal age for voting is eighteen, you are able to enter the protection stress provider at 18 without parental consent (17 with parental consent). you should sign up for selective provider once you turn 18 years of age in case you're a male (yet no longer sign up in any respect in case you're a woman). All of those diverse courses have a reason for the a while that have been enacted into regulation. attempting to be taught them is like evaluating apples and oranges--they don't seem to be the comparable element.

You're entitled to your opinion. however the two don't have anything in common.

Should we require you to be 21 to:

Have sex?
Drive a car?
Sign a contract?
Get a Job?
Ask questions on Answers?

Think of it this way, at 18 you can kill someone as long as you are "supervised", but can't drink because that is "unsupervised".

Feel better?

Actually, an under-21 year old may legally "drink a beer" under the existing law.

i believe it is complete bull i joined the military when i was 17 (parents signed a waiver) and if i am old enough to go over seas and fight for our country why cant i sit at a bar and have a drink. some people dont really understand. of coarse ther are going to be those people that say at that age you are no mature enough yet but if i can hold a gun and kill for my country i should be able to go buy a six pack for a bbq on saturday. i am now old enough to drink but i still feel for the guys that are fighting for our country and are expected to act like adults but are still being treated like little kids.

I think so. But most 18 year olds drink anyways.

Yes, you are correct.
Although there is no longer a draft, young people can enlist at 18.
Plus if they have to go over there, they might need a few pops to relieve the stress.

A bit over-simplistic... and the question has been debated ad infintum... In any case we have no draft so the question is moot.
