You must mean the Trojan War. The excuse for it was that Paris a prince of Troy carried off Helen the queen of Sparta. 1186 ships sailed from Greece to Troy. Each ship held 50 to 120 men. Agamemnon of Mycenae had the biggest army with 12,000 men on 100 ships. Odysseus had 12 ships with 600 men. Quite a difference, eh? the war lasted for 10 years, until odysseus got the idea of hiding some men inside a giant wooden horse. That night, they were in Troy and opened the gates, so that Agamemnon and the army could enter the city. The Trojans were outnumbered and caught by surprise, so they could not offer much resistance. There is another and smaller war at the end of the Odyssey.

The war in the Iliad was caused by a Golden Apple.
*How did the war end? -- Troy was destroyed by treachery
*Who was behind the scheme?--The Trojan horse was thought of by Ulysses
*How big of a fleet does Odysseus leave troy with? I don't remember.
*What do the Greeks believe about the gods? Do is present tense...many still believe in the Old Gods and many belong to the Greek Orthodox church.

Good answers so far, but just saying 'Golden Apple' leaves me disappointed...

It all started with a party on Olympus. A big party for all of the gods was planned, but somebody decided that inviting Eris was a bad idea. (She's the Goddess of Chaos and Discord, and the quintessential 'crazy redhead'.) Eris' feelings were hurt that all of her friends and family didn't want her at their stupid, stuffy party. So, she decided to show them that not inviting chaos is basically like inviting MORE chaos.

She fashioned the Golden Apple, which had the word 'Kallisti' on it. 'Kallisti' means, "To the prettiest one." Eris rolled that apple into the party like a bowling ball headed for a strike. All the Goddesses fought and scrapped over it. Zeus eventually took the apple, and chose a mortal man to decide who the 'prettiest one' really was. He chose Paris of Troy, because he was supposed to be a fair, objective sort of guy.

Well, the Goddesses immediately started trying to bribe him. Hera offered power, Athena offered victory in battle, but Aphrodite offered him the hottest chick on Earth, Helen of Sparta, later of Troy. So, of course Aphrodite got the Apple, and Paris got Helen. So the Trojan war started to try and get Helen back.

After the whole deal with the Apple, Eris ate a hot dog without a bun, because such was the solace of Eris after the Original Snub.

I think your teacher is rightly testing the class to see if they're actually reading the books they have to do book reports on!

READ THE BOOK. Read both of them.

The Iliad and Odyssey by Homer.

Your school and town library should have copies!

If you're willing to read an older translation you can google and download free e-text copies.

You are being incredibly lazy you should have had no trouble whatsoever finding a summary on the net of both books!
