the D may not have as many commercial successes as Chitown, but My vote goes to the D. J dilla and slum village alone could take on anything the Chi put out except for maybe Resurrection.

Vakill
Typical Cats (all Qwazaar, Qwel, and Denizen Kane solo too)
Capital D (and All Natural)
JUICE
Molemen
Common
Kanye West
Twista
Lupe Fiasco
Rhymefest
O-Type Star

Still good rappers:
Gemini
Agent Orange
Diverse
Iomos Marad (not enough material)
Rhymescheme
Rubberoom (kind of abstract, heavy metal rap)

In my opinion, no album that Detroit has ever made could stand up to Insomnia-Capital D. But I know not too many people are up on that album. What carries Chicago is its incredible underground, they are simply not wack.

Thanks, I also have more stuff like Longshot but I figure that there is no point of mentioning them, people have no idea who they are.

To use an old cliché, can we not all get along? The funny thing about The South is that there is no real icon. Granted T.I. may call himself "the king of the south" and other rappers may give themselves self-proclaimed titles. However, everyone in the south just does his or her thing. Southern rappers are not really looking to be an icon, they just want to have their piece of the pie and do what they love.

However, the Midwest is a different story. Nelly is an icon for Saint Louis; Eminem is an icon for Detroit; Kanye, Twista, and R. Kelly hold Chicago down. There does not seem to be that same unity that The South has though.

Now excuse me for that little bit for I digress. I believe that Detroit has the talent, but they're lacking the love that Chicago rappers get. Eminem is so big, that I will not mention him anymore in this reply.

On the production side, Detroit has the not so well known (Silent Riot) and those trying to come up (Sick Notes). As for some Detroit emcees that were not noted: Kid Rock, which is a rapper/rocker/singer who received his bit of limelight; Fat Killahz; Trick Trick; Paradime; Hush; Purple Gang; Obie Trice; D12.

As someone noted, D12 could be labeled a commercial success, but at the same time they're not. D12 is not known for talking about wealth, playing musical beds, and being hood in all of their songs. I, personally, know D12 for their indecent yet sarcastic and humorous lyrics.

Also ask yourself "when was the last time a local radio station played a D12 tune?" Most likely the answer would be circa one of their two album releases. On the other hand, radio stations will spin Nelly - Hot in Herre or R. Kelly - Trapped in the Closet like they were timeless hits.

I respect the work that Common, Kanye, Lupe, Twista, and Rhymefest put out. However I listen to Detroit emcees when I am craving for motivation, something to relate to, hard beats, rhymes and humor.

Detroit gets my thumbs up!

i have got to give it to Slum Village. Detriot Deli was fire and then they came back with SV. Not well known but one of the best groups out by far. Then go to Obie Trice.... sick, takes a bullet to the head and still come out raw on second rounds on me. D12 only commercial group and they arent really that commercial.

Overall The D has it.
