I just realized that I could be Bipolar, but my mood swings are really fast and I heard that the period between mood swings is generally longer. I also freak out at people a lot and every little thing gets me annoyed. Sometimes I get so out of control that I scratch myself until I bleed. I think I need a therapist, but it's kind of embarassing. I really don't want to be this way anymore and I know its mental but I can't stop. What should I do?

You're more embarrassed to see a counselor than you are to continue to live life that way? Please, give me a break and go to your school counselor for a referral.

Although only a trained medical person can say if you have bipolar, it doesn't sound like you do. Bipolar does go for long periods of time. You experience long periods of mania, where you have grandiose thoughts and actions. You then swing down to periods of depression. But these periods of times are months, not just a few hours like most people think they are.So Bipolar is unlikely for you.

You certainly could be depressed. Having depression doesnt always mean being super sad and crying. It can also mean being irritable and angry. Scratching could be a way to relieve anxiety or to mask pain. Go to a therapist in your area. You can use the link below or call the 8oo number on your insurance card or go to your insurance company's website. Most insurance companies have a component to their website where you can search for a clincian so you know they take your insurance.
A therapist can do a psych eval and can determine what is wrong with you and recommend the right course of action. Ask your guidance or adjustment counselor for help. If you have a school therapist, ask to see that person. Or ask your parents. Your parents want you to be happy and successful and will want to help you. And if you do go to therapy nobody ever has to know, unless you tell them. Its confidential, even from your parents. And therapy doesnt leave a neon sign over your head, it just helps you clear your mind and feel better!

Good Luck!

If you are bi-polar, you can't help it. Unfortunately, you could just keep getting worse. Then, you could be so bad that you would be at the point that no one could reason with you to see a therapist.
So, before you get that bad, get to a therapist now. I have two daughters who are MSW's. They, along with pysciatrists and legal medications can make life much better for a person who is bipolar.
