I already asked this question, but I am creating a new one, I was disappointed by how few answers I received :(. I need to write a story for class and am writing a Harry Potter/Charlie Bone/Inkheart type book (Fantasy/Action/Adventure) and I need help. How can I make paragraphs and thoughts join together well and how can I get in a lot of words. I want the book to fly by as people read it because it is so good. ANy writing tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Do you need to write a short story or a book? If it's a short story, limit yourself to ONE plot and not more than three or four characters.

My best advice is to pick up books you like and write out the first three pages by hand to see how that author did it. Then you apply what you learn to your own work (don't copy their words).

If you already have your idea it's pretty easy. Just sit down and have at it. Like Jacob said, don't worry about structure, or even grammar in your first draft. The more you try to edit while you write the more discouraged you'll become, and the more the true ideas and imagination will drain out of your work.

Once you have the rough draft you can go back and see what could be changed, or rearranged. Have someone else read it and ask questions you may not have thought of. (this can be the best way to get new ideas, or flesh out weak ones) It is my opinion that there is no formula to good writing, it's just a matter of doing it.

Practicing is also a good thing to do just before you start writing on your story. Sit down in front of a blank piece of paper and fill it up with anything that comes to your head. Doing this sort of clears away all the rubbish. It gets you "in the mood".

Hope some of this helps!
Good luck!

Write the story out quickly and without regard for structure. This is your outline. Then work on structuring the events so they flow the way you wish. Then spent the remaining time editing it.

Do not try to produce a finished work in one draft. If you have the time after you finish it, leave it alone for a while then go back and read it again. Tweak it if it still needs tweaking. Then consider that your finished work and submit it. Do not over-write nor under-write it. Do not forget to proof read.
