It had the most accurate gun fight ever filmed. What was kind of sad was the story of how they found the little town the movie was shot in. Because the U.S. West has been an engine of economic expansion and population growth, they had to use a small town in Western Canada. The same thing happened with the Superman movie made by Christopher Reeve. Those opening scenes of the Clark farm were shot in Alberta Province.

Yes, I saw it and I thought Annette did a great job. Robert Duvall always does a great job and Kevin Costner is always Keving Costner, not quite believable, but not totally inept, just not really great. I thought the only movie Costner ever did that was really good was that Western when he played a two-gun dude with all the other guys I can't remember their names right now. I just went blank.

Oh my yes indeedy...saw it, recorded it, bought the DVD, etc., etc. Duval is a national treasure... We also have "Lonesome Dove" and "Broken Trails" [or whatever that one was with the Chinese girls?] on DVD and our own VCR recording also as back-up. We watch "Open Range" the most...about every 3 months one of us will say, "Hey, isn't it time for..." and crank it up. "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway" is the surprise role for Duval...anyone else remember that one? A real weepie...but so authentically done as to place and atmosphere.

Lonesome Dove (the miniseries) and Broken Trail are absolutely the best Duval westerns. I own them both and still watch them pretty regularly,

Yes, and we have it on our DVR. We both like westerns, and
we also liked the cast. I'm not a Costner fan, nor really for
Annette either, but the combination made for a very good
movie.

Well you must have "Slingblade" then. That was filmed in the town that my dad grew up in. My husband is more of a movie buff than I am, but I think he has a copy of Open Range.
