Hi. The Earth is tilted toward the Sun on the equinox, making the day longer and the heating more intense. The days get shorter as summer progresses.

If you mean that the summers and winters in the northern hemisphere are milder than those in the southern hemispheres, it is because the earth is closer to the sun around January 4 and further away around July 4.

The axis has nothing to do with the weather. The wobble in the planets spin that tilts the axis combined with an elliptical orbit around the sun is what causes the variations in temperature.
