This is the question:

Does this make sense? He says the reason he never married is because no woman was ever good enough for his mom

This is the answer:

Possibly yes. He knows his mothers negetives and positives (attitude/ behaviour etc). He did not want a noisy atmosphere at home. I mean chances of In-law fighting.

A cop out for commitment if I ever heard one. I truly hope this isn't a guy you are involved with. If children don't like what they saw in their family, they have the ability to be better in theirs as adults. Please don't listen to excuses like this. Make sure you are with someone who has grown up and learned how to make their own way rather than stay behind by blaming their past experiences.

It is great that he has a relationship with his mother, but to never commit to someone because you would rather be with your mother is just, not quite right. When it comes down to it, if my family hated the one woman that I really loved, they wouldn't be the kind of family I want.

I don't know what kind of an answer you are looking for. When we married, neither set of parents approved. Her's screamed and fought with us till they died, mine haven't spoken to us in over 40 yrs. (There was no serious problems, same race, same religion, both 25 yr old, they just didn't like our choices.) We didn't pick mates to please our parents. And many many do not.

Run, run fast. He knows his mum. And trust me.. A mother-in-law that doesn't like you can make it very hard to be happily married.

Ask him "do you marry me for you or for your mother?"

If he says for him, then why does he care about the mother?

If he says for his mother, then you say goodbye!

The old tree dies, the young tree grows. Ask him if he wants to grow old with his mother or his wife?
