I was five and I still remember it in our itty bitty town.

Fortunately there were always carnivals and county fairs around when I was growing up. Loved the rides and games, and of course the cotton candy and candy apples! The circus came to town once a year and I definitely remember my first, and only, time going. Was having fun until this clown kept pointing to his red wig and then my red hair. I was so embarrassed and mortified, especially since I hated my hair at that age, and never went to the circus again! (And to this day, I'm not all that fond of clowns.)

I went to a circus for the first time when I was 9 (or one year earlier). What impressed me the most was just right after visiting the circus, I wrote my first long composition (8 pages) about visiting the circus.
For carnival, I just got my first experience there last year. I went there with my family, and it was really exciting.

First time I remember it was a carnival in North Carolina. My Dad was teaching at a college there and some neighbors took me along with them and their kids.

I was mesmerized! But later my Dad got very upset with the neighbors because they had let me go into the 'Freak House' [which is what they called it back then]. There was an 'alligator man'; a 'fish' man and a woman with a baby growing out of her side....I was too young to know that those were persons with disabilities whose only method for earning their keep was to be in these sideshows! Now the thought makes me sick to my stomach that folk would use people like that.

My grandma worked at Boeing and she took us to the company sponsored Christmas Circus. I remember the dancing bear best.
I took my nephew to a circus and his parents gave him money to spend. I taught him that day not to waste money on over priced stuff he bought himself a tiny cup of pop for more than a six pack would cost in the store. He wanted to buy a stupid little overpriced toy but I talked him into a toy store after so he could get something good. The elephants smelled bad.
Mom took granddaughters and they peeked behind the curtains and saw clowns getting ready. They were upset because they didn't have real clowns only people dressed up like clowns.

Yes, I remember going with my family when I was about five. (1950) It was the Barnum and Bailey three ring circus at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. It was incredible. I remember trying to watch everything at once. The Parade around the rings stands out in my mind and all the bright colors. The elephants were especially impressive.

We didn't have a circus nearby when I was a kid. The 1st time I went to the circus was with my daughter's brownie troop. It was about 2 hrs away and we went on a bus. I had as much fun as the kids.

I've went to the county fair since I was about 4-5 and still go every chance I get. I love everything about it, esp. all those tasty treats.

yeah, Shrine Circus, I must have been about five. The elephant let go of his or her bowels and then peed all over the floor. That is the only thing I remember but boy was I impressed by the amount of liquid that elephant could let go. (and then there was that poor guy that came out and mopped it all up, I am laughing at it even now some 45 years after it happened).

Don't remember how old I was. I went with my father and was obviously fascinated. However, on the way out, in the crowd, I lost my dad, I could not see him anywhere, and such a terrible panic set in. I can still vividly remember it to this day. My dad was only a few steps behind me, bit I thought I was lost forever. That I remember. I have no recollection about the circus.

I don't remember going to a circus or carnival, but I do remember my dad taking me and my sister to the county fair. We walked through all of the animal exhibits, watched an auction .. cows I think, and then played on the playground. I still go to my local county fair and walk through the animal exhibits, pet the bunnies, cows, goats and chickens.

i dont think this is what you mean, but interesting none the less. when i was 4 or 5 my father took me to a carnival that he worked at. it was in oklahoma and i remember the dusty road and the wooden roller coaster. i think he took me on the sly. (my mother said this was absurd, he didnt do anything like that) he ran a booth where wooden pins were knocked down. i remember sitting on the ground in the booth all day long.

not long after that he left my mother with 5 little kids, me being the oldest. we never heard from him again, not knowing what happened to him. when i was 48 he caught up with me. it turned out he joined the carnival and then went on to be a very famous tattoo artist in texas. and yes, he confirmed it,,,,he took me to my first carnival,,it was just like i remembered. (mom was dumbfounded)
