Chinese try to live up to the names their parents gave them. One of my best friends is Chan Kuo-Lai. His given name signifies that his father wanted him to stand up for his country. My lover Bi-Chen gave me the name Chia-Li that can mean Fine Logic or Beautiful Truth. Her name means Green Jade Treasure. She is a precious gal. My Japanese lover Miyuki's name means Beautiful Blessing. Garrett means Firm Spear and denotes Brave Warrior. That suits me well, as does my Chinese name.

My dad named me. He said a bunch of names to me, I had gas and made a face that he thought was a smile and the name he'd just said stuck. I was stuck with Leah Rae.
Basically, that means I'm a weary, gray lamb and a deer.
Contention # 1: I am not a weary person, I was born under the Leo zodiac sign.
#2: I'm not gray haired, I've got naturally blonde hair like a lot of Leos.
#3: I like to eat doe and buck, so I really don't think the second one fits too much either.
#4: In no way am I a sheep. I ask way too many questions to follow blindly. I eat sheep for dinner, they're prey animals to us lions.
I blame my infantile fart to being stuck with such a disasterous misnomer for the last 26 years.

Well, my given names mean "bitter house of god"....not very suitable to me, since I'm neither bitter nor do I practice religion :)
Before it became immortalized by Joan Collins' character in "Dynasty", I named my daughter Alexis. It means "helper of mankind". She's a great kid (well, 31!) but I don't know if hers suits her either! So...I'd have to venture that our names come about because our parents liked the way they sound :)

For the most part i believe in name meanings but my name means 'pure' and its derived from katherine and i dont know if it fits me very well...(nothing bad) so maybe i believe more in original names, and not some of the ones derived from the originals

As I was named after a comic strip heroic character and adventurer of whom there were eventually movies made of I doubt any mystic attachment at all.
Terry is my namesake.....of the "Terry and The Pirates" newspaper comic strip.

Well, that depends on what you mean by that. I named my children based on what the names meant, and they fit their names well. For instance; my oldest daughter is beautiful like an elf child and her name means beauty. My second daughter's name means sun star and she has golden hair and eyes like stars.
My name means white and fair and I'm both. So i guess it depends on what you mean.
