I have a set of sliding mirrored closet doors which I need to install on a concrete floor. I cannot find the installation instructions, but I recall there was something in them about putting down a thin piece of wood under the lower track so that the carpet could go under the track (the lower track carries the weight because they are mirrored doors).

Has anyone done this or have any recommendations how to do it?

Thanks,
AJ

You have the wrong concept. The lower track only acts as a guide. The top track carries the weight of the doors. The bottom is screwed to the plywood strip that you place before the carpet is installed. You could put a piece of three eights or half inch plywood in place before the carpet is installed. You could put some adhesive on the ply to hold it in place but you don't really need it. Good Luck

The door track usually has a squared opening on the bottom, with the tracks running on either side of it. Yes, you do put a strip of wood in that opening for support of the track when it's installed onto the concrete floor. You then carpet around the track.

To install the track into the concrete, drill holes (about 1/4 inch) in the concrete with a masonry bit where you want the screws to go. Then you can push concrete anchors into the holes and use screws to secure the track in place.

You're on the right track!(sorry for the Pun!)

Cut a piece of 5/8" plywood strip and fasten it in place with tap con screws into the concrete. PLace your track on the plywood strip, and fasten it in place.

Also, I would put a vapor barrier between the plywood and the concrete. Otherwise, the plywood may absorb sweat fro the cocrete floor during warm weather, or humid conditions, and rot out, and rot your lower track, as well!
