My little one is 4.5 months old and I think has her first case of diaper rash. I feel like an awful mommy! I know it happens to most babies... but still, know what I mean? Well, she is a little red on the lips of her vagina and a little bit heading towards the crease of her legs. There are a few spots that seem a little "puffy", NOT majorly and she isnt BRIGHT red. Does this sound like diaper rash? She has her 4 month checkup on Thursday and I plan on using some desitin til then. She doesnt seem like she is in pain... still giggles during diaper changes, ect... what do ya think?

You're doing great if this is her first rash! Does it just look red and puffy or is there little red spots almost like acne in with it. If there are acne like spots then you need to take her in for a yeast infection...Yes little babies get yeast infections very easily. Other then that keep her as dry as possible. Use sensitive wipes or even better after using wipes wet down some paper towels to remove residue and then let her air dry. Once dry put cream on her. Desitin is good though personally I found that with my son's extremely sensitive skin aquafor worked much better. It's produced by eucerin and is a more purified form of petroleum jelly. Smear that on liberally and then diaper. Best thing for any rash is keep it dry and as much fresh air as possible.
They have water proof pads that are designed for beds that work perfectly for baby to lay on and is big enough for a bit of crawling around and still protect any carpets from the piddle monster.

Yes, that sounds like diaper rash. You are not a bad mommy!!!

Slather on Desitin during each diaper change. You can also use this powder along with the Desitin (Caldesene powder-in a pink container but it's kind of hard to find).

Be sure to put Desitin on before bed time as that will help provide a barrier against diapers that will be on for a long time. Once your baby starts eating food, rashes will be more frequent too.

If you get a bad rash, they won't want you to touch their bottoms. In that case, spread the Desitin on the diaper or buy a spray on kind.

Good luck!

sounds like a mild diaper rash. If desitin doesn't work, I highly recommend a product called "butt paste" It's generally a little more expensive than most other creams, but you can get a smaller tube (at any store, such as Target or Walmart) for under $5. It smells mildly different, but usually clears up even the worst of rashes within a day. I use it at the first sign of redness on my son, and it's gone by the next diaper change. Warm baths also help, and if she starts acting like she is in pain with diaper changes, use a cool washcloth and blot, instead of wiping with a baby wipe. This generally feels better to them.

If it is "spotty", it may be a yeast infection. DO NOT put cornstarch or any powder on a rash as it can cause an overgrowth of yeast. If it's a rash or yeast either one, air will help to dry it up alot, so as much time as she can spend bare bottomed, let her. When she has to wear a diaper, use a thick coat of any zinc oxide cream, like Butt Paste, Balmex or pure Desitin. It will create a good barrier between her skin and any urine.

Diaper rashes look just like yeast infections in infants. If its diaper rash it should clear up in a day or two when using desitin at every change. If it doesnt clear up, stays red, and even seems like its raised in patches, or spreading its a yeast infection.

All babies get diaper rash. Its normal, and you cannot avoid it unless you change them every single time they wet as soon as they wet. Which is impossible, especially as babies start sleeping longer. Sleep is more important than a change.

If its a yeast infection, which is also very common in babies, (boys and girls) it will clear right up in a week or so with some regular vaginal yeast infection cream (the kind you get with a 7 day treatment at the drug store).

Hi, I've got 2 children, neither of which ever had napy rash. As far as I know, it is caused by overly acidic or alkaline urine or leaving a wet nappy on too long.I breastfed too so if you are able to, that helps. Medication can also effect the urine. If you do need to use cream to treat it, I have heard that "Mei Mei" (an Australian brand) is great and contains no chemicals also.Good luck with your precious daughter.

Diaper rash and a little cornstarch will do the trick.
