Well, the Mayans predicted on the EXACT day of Hernando's Cortes' arrival, that "White, Bearded, Gods" would come from the sea.
Another thing was the Chinese I Ching, an IMO, irrelevant fortune telling device in it's normal form, was put over a time graph, which showed it's trend in order, predicting what seemed like the highs and lows of mankind. The Lowest points fell on the date of the fall of Rome, both World Wars, with high points being the discovery of the new world. The graph ended on December 21st 2012, and it was at it's lowest point.
Scientists discovered on that date, the Earth will be in line with the Sun and the Center of the Milky Way, which is a black hole, and think that possibly a pole shift might occur, which occurring in a short amount of time, will cause massive changes to the world, resulting with earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, and hurricanes etc.
However, the Mayan Calender did go past that point, since some king celebrates the anniversary of his rule on some date years after.

This isn't as much of a predictions as a open ended question.
Because the Mayan calender stops at the year 2012 there has be allot of talk about the end of the world, or the beginning of a new dawn in man evolution.
So even though this is another theory, no different then many others that have been offered it may or may not be true.
I can say this for sure, even Nostradamus' projection have come true in a sense, they were very broad perceptions of the future so you could read allot into them.

The Mayan calendar ends on that date and some people speculate that this means the end of the world.
The pole shift theory is a hypothesis that the axis of rotation of a planet has not always been at its present-day locations or that the axis will not persist there; in other words, that its physical poles had been or will be shifted. Pole shift theory is almost always discussed in the context of Earth, but other solar system bodies may have experienced axial reorientation during their existences. (Got this from a web site)
But in reality, what can we do if the poles do shift or the earth begins a self-destruct. Not much. So I don't worry about it.

I think its funny how people keep predicting something bad will happen on a certain day and nothing ever does. Believe its going to be the same old story for 12-21-2012.

Dec 21st 2012 is the last day of the Ancient Myan Calendar system, they believed that this date signified that our world would reach a higher plane of existance.
Indeed many people beleive that we are heading towards a period of enlightenment. Our world is growing to be so decadent and greedy that we will either need to have a global epiphany or suffer the consequences.
I personally beleive that we are on the cusp of something huge, but I'm not sure what exactly.

The Mayan calender is made up of many phases. December 12, 2012 is merely the end of it's ninth phase. December 13, 2012 starts the beginning of the tenth phase...not to worry.

I just love your sarcasm. Sure, I believe it, um...no I don't. We live in the 21st century and no one knows whats going to happen. The end of the world could be tomorrow for all we know. Don't worry about it, I'm pretty sure you'll survive to see the sun rise on Dec. 22, but hey, even if its true, you still have four years of your life left to enjoy. ;)
