I just read a tattoo question (and answered it) but some of the answers simply wrote ...get it on someone else...why mark yourself for life?

I mean come on...either answer the question or keep your words to yourself.. the person asked you to GIVE ADVICE WHERE TO GET ONE. Not what your opinon about them is.

yet yahoo won't delete those answers..but they'd delete a "lol"

Tattoos still carry a heavy reputation for being connected with gangs and violence. Just as having a beeper or cell phone did ten years ago. Now if you don't have a cell phone you're in the minority. It's become our way of life. Tattoos are kind of the same thing, however, having a tattoo has no practical purpose unlike a cell phone. Having a tattoo won't save your life in an emergency, but it is a way of expressing yourself. Some people do it to prove to themselves they can endure the pain, some do it for political reasons (statement of peace), some like myself did it for rememberance. It could be a way to remember a spouse, an important date, a personal acheivement, a child, or a deceased love one. They do it because it's a why of keeping those important things close to them in thier minds forever.

People who insult tattooed people don't seem to understand this. They seem to only see that you are forever scaring your body. And that in 50 years you'll regret it. We'll they are semi right. I know plenty of older people who got tattoos back in the day (the old fashion way) and now you can't tell what they are and it just looks like a giant odd shaped birth mark. As you age your body does change and so do the markings on your body. Your tattoos will change, but that doesn't mean YOU will forget what your tatoos meant. And whenever someone new sees what's left of your tattoo it will bring up those memories of why you got it in the first place. Noted they were good memories, your tattoo will still be doing its job even though it's messed up.

People need to understand that not all tattooed people are freaks and stupid and young and foolish or dangerous and trouble makers. Many of us took a lot of care in getting our tattoos and couldn't be nicer people. However, we are still tanted with the memories of the days when only gangs members would get tattoos after a kill. Or when tattoos where associated with the branding of animals. I believe over time these thinkings will change and tattoos will become the new cellphone.

I think it's complete ignorance. I have heard that certain companies won't hire a person b/c of a tattoo if it's visible. To me that's just ludicrous! A tattoo does NOT signify a person's abilities or intelligence. I'd rather have a doctor with tattoo's all over his body and be a great, compassionate person than a "clean cut" doctor who is arrogant and insensitive. Some people are just too narrowed minded. Actually, I pity them. btw, I think MJR's avatar is just too cool!!

Don't rightly know.
Mine, as you can see, have a cultural significance.
Where I come from, every 8th person or so has a 'moko' but where I live is another story.
I get the usual stares with the look of disgust & I'm not expecting everyone to understand.

I agree.

I just think some ppl are against them cuz they think theyre trashy. Everyone is going to have a different opinion on them. Im ok with them, but I dont have any, myself. I agree with you though, either answer the question or dont answer at all.*

I think I answered that question myself and it was pretty negative.
I have 3 tattoos and I have yet to meet anyone that didn't love them.
My tattoos are covered not on my arms or legs
So they wouldn't affect my job.
I love them 2 are pretty big one smaller 1

Ink is a pretty personal thing. And, you're either for it or against it. I personally wouldn't have ink on me, but I do admire the artistry that I've seen on others.

Eh, I agree. I have two tattoos. My boyfriend hates them. I want another one, and he said, "You don't NEED another one. You're NOT getting one." Hahaha, oh yeah? Just because he said that I'll get two more, thank you very much.

Why do people insult us? There is still the residual thought that people with tattoos are 'low class'. Silly buggers... :)
