ok so the question is
y=-2|3(x+4)|+5
so i know that it is a verticle compression of 2 and a horizontal stretch by 1/3
the normal step pattern is over 1 up 1 over 1 up 1
so does that mean i multiply all over 1s by 1/3 and divide all up 1s by 2?

y = -2|3(x + 4)| + 5
The three can come out of the absolute value sign, so the following equation is equivalent to the original equation:
y = -6|x + 4| + 5
Part of the graph has a slope of 6 and part of the graph has a slope of -6.
The two and the three both contribute to making the graph steeper , up 6 over 1, down 6 over 1.
