List what you know

L + T = 34

(L-5) +(3T -5) = 61

L= 34-T

34-T + (3T - 5)= 61
2T +29 = 61
2T = 32
T = 16
L = 18

Hello,

l + t = 34
2(l-5) + 3(t-5) = 61

2l - 10 + 3t -15 = 61

2l + 3t -25 = 61 so 2l + 3t = 86

now l = 34 -t so 2(34-t) + 3t = 86 and 68-2t + 3t = 86 and t = 18 and then l = 34 -18 = 16.

Hope tis Helps!

L+T=34
2L+3T=61
*then you add all the like terms straight down
3L+4T=75
subtract 3L from each side of the = sign
4T=75-3L
4T=3(25-L)
(4/3)T=25-L
now you can find L
subtract 25 from each side
(4/3)T-25=-L
get rid of the negative sign on L
25-(4/3)T=L
Now you can plug L into one of the original problem
25-(4T/3)+T=34
subtract 25 from each side of the equal sign
-(4T/3)+T=9
give a common denominator for the Ts
-(4T/3)+(3T/3)=9
-4T+3T=9
T=9
*Now you can plug it into the original problem to get the real L
L+9=34
subtract 9 from each side
L=25
* You have to add five years to both of them now
T=14.....L=30
