When I was a little girl, we went to the drive-in to see a couple of science fiction, one of which was "The Blob" (1957). Not far into the film, my mom, younger sister and I were begging to go home?! We were that frightened of this new monster that was like nothing we had ever seen! It obviously wasn't a man in a suit, so what WAS this blob that oozed and moved around apparently on its own, getting larger and changing color as it devoured people, finally turning bloodred! It could get to you through vents, from under doors~EVERYWHERE! Well, you'd be safe if you had a freezer handy.

Dad wouldn't take us home, and I'm thankful for that although I actually, honestly, truly was terrified for weeks after, thinking about the Blob being anywhere and everywhere, with no place to hide from it! At school, it became a badge of honor to say that you had watched this film and lived to tell the tale! *giggle* We didn't know about special effects way back when, so this monster became THE creature for us.

Since then, movies have given me moments where I was startled, but I've never had that big a fright since "The Blob", when I was about 8-9. (Being a smaller city, there always was a delay in getting films.)

*slight spoiler warning* --> not the ending but a scene...

Wow. Good question. I love horror movies, and the one that I still remember to this day is more of a psychological horror movie:

Se7en.

The scene where the guy has been chained to the bed for a year, and then he wakes up...whoa...

(sidenote: I thought that Signs was sufficiently creepy, too!)
