I'm doing a DIY Will Kit and want one of my beneficiaries (a family member who is resident in the UK) to also be my Executor.

Yes, there isn't a problem in doing so. However you should also include a clause in your will authorizing them to pay for professional services in the execution of your will, e.g. engaging a trustee company or the Public Trustee in order to administer your estate. This will help them administer your estate if they can't come to Australia

Wills and estates are fairly complex areas, and often DIY kits don't fully explore the law. In NSW and some other states, the Public Trustee's expert staff will draft one for you free of charge, if they are appointed as the executor.

Yes, but they will have problems carrying out their duties! An Executor will have to attend the local court etc so a relative in the UK will have to go to Aus! Remember though a beneficiary cannot witness the will without losing their entitlement.

Yes you can. However, it is not wise. You need to include enough information on them so that they may be located easily.

Do you really wat someone to have to take time off work and travel to Australia to sort of your finances and property? It could drag on for a very long time and require several trips.
