Mac help (again)?

Question

when i look in the menu bar, i see shortcuts with an arrow pointing up, the apple sign, and a letter....ive tried to hold the up arrow, but it doesnt seem to work...does anyone know what key on the keyboard makes the shortcut work

That's the Shift key, located above Ctrl on the left of the keyboard.

The funny =\_ symbol you also see is the Alt key.

That's an easy mistake to make, I'm surprised more people don't ask that question.
