Does anyone have any inforamtion about how and when to take your temperature to figure out when you are ovulating? I haven't had a period since I stopped taking my birth control pills in May. No I'm not pregnant, I've taken about 50 pregnancy tests all come back negative. The doctor has told me that this is normal and it could take awhile for my periods to get back to normal. He said that I could still be ovulating and to take my temperature every morning before I get out of bed and if it between 98-99 then that's when I'm ovulating. Does anyone else have any other information about this? Thanks so much.

First, go to a drugstore and get a basal thermometer, preferably digital.

Then sign up on FertilityFriend.com and start charting your temps. They have an online course that I suggest you take before you start charting so you know how to do it correctly. There's message boards, articles, and personal testimonies available for you to read and gain knowledge from.

Your doctor is wrong about the post-ovulation temps of 98-99. That is not necessarily normal for everyone. My temps never get that high. The only way to know what's normal for you is to start charting at the beginning of your cycle and watch the pattern unfold.

Good luck.

I just went through natural family planning classes sponsored through my catholic church. All it is basically is not using any contraceptives. You use only factors associated with waking temps and vaginal mucous changes. All you have to do is take your temp every morning right when you wake up and chart this temp. As soon as your temp goes up by at least 3/10 of a degree for 3 consecutive days, you probably have ovulated. normally your temp is lower in the morning sometimes only registering about 97.5 or less. so 97.8 would be that 3/10 of a degree. You can also tell if you are ovulating by having more of a stretchy and slimy feel to your vaginal mucous this is also a sign of ovulation. And you should notice that these two things should happen around the same time. good luck

It doesn't matter so much if you take your temperature in the afternoon, so long as you've been asleep for around 6 hours or so and make sure you take it as soon as you wake up (preferably at the same time) before you get out of bed and start moving around. This is a really great way to help identify your ovulation. I used this method with both my pregnancies and fell pregnant within 2 months of using it both times. Good Luck!

You take it first thing in the morning before you get out of bed. You start doing it after your period ends. You will see a trend in your temps, and once it spikes up and stays up it means you have ovulated. it stays high until your period comes, or stays high if you are pregnant.

I don't know of any websites (but I'm sure if you searched under that topic you'd find lots of info.) There's a book I have called, "Taking Charge of Your Own Fertility'' that is an excellent resource for charting temperature and getting in tune with your body and your cycle. Good Luck!
