Frank abagnale took cheques to banks and then got money for them, but how did this even work? wouldnt they just see that the account numbers were wrong, wouldnt they see that he didnt even have an account. if he did make fake accounts then he would have to have money in the bank to get money for his fake cheques right? so to me this makes no sense

He made checks that appeared to be drawn on other banks. No bank can verify another banks account numbers. The banks at the time allowed Pilots to cash payroll checks without having an account. He was impersonating a pilot and cashing forged payroll checks. He also modified the routing numbers in a manner that caused the processing systems to route the checks to banks on the opposite coast. Because checks were physically transported to the banks for collection at the time, it took several days before the check was discovered to be phony.
