I'm American and live right on the border, and a lot of the seniors sneak up to Canada for their prescriptions.

I guess it's just because I was raised here and am used to our system, but I just can't imagine not being able to go to the doctor because you have to save the money, or it's not in the budget. I can't imagine not being able to have life-saving emergency surgery because of lack of funds or insurance, which is prohibitive in terms of expense. It just is not an issue here. I never have to wait to see my family doctor. Ever. I have had surgery in the past and have not had to wait the unrealistically long periods of time as is portrayed by the media about the Canadian health care system. The health care I have received has always been incredibly professional and top notch. I'm happy to say that I enjoy very good health today, due to our publicly funded health care system.

I'm not saying there's not flaws, there are, especially with doctor shortages, but it far surpasses any system that would leave its poorest and working poor out in the cold.

Okay Melissa, you have better health care, but when was the last time you had the joy of "spreading democracy" to a country. Canada's problem is they care to much about their people and not enough about the emotional gratitude of making other countries love you. You guys probably don't even have huge foam fingers that say "were #1" "go USA"

I also live right on the border and see lots of Canadians (ones with the money) coming to the U.S. for medical treatment. The U.S. seems to have better care with shorter waits.

lately a lot of babies have to be delivered in the U.S. because the Canadian hospitals don't have any room. If that happened in the U.S. would we go to Mexico?

It's expensive! How much is a bypass for heart attacks, it's six figures, is it not? We may have longer wait lines but when I need care I don't need to talk to an insurance person thousands of miles away before the doctor can fix me up. If I am sick I have my OHIP card and it discounts my prescriptions and pays the doctor bills. American healthcare is efficient, but expensive.
