I did something really stupid last night. I was trying to fix something in a light bulb socket, but I forgot to turn off the power first. Next thing I knew, pow! Room went dark! I checked all circuit breakers and even reset them. Final result is that one electrical socket in my room (the room where I was messing with the light) is completely dead. But the room next to it has 3 outlets, and they are all dead as well. Is this something I can fix by myself? I am soooo stupid!

....2 hours later - Thanks to ALL of you for helping me!!! I can't rate Best Answer until my question has been posted for 4 hours, but Praise God - you folks solved my problem!!!!!! There was a circuit breaker I missed when I re-set them, because it was smaller and shaped differently than the others. I reset that breaker and now I have light!!!!

Oh, thanks again to you all. You just saved me a ton of $$ and embarrassment. Now I can honestly say, "I SEE THE LIGHT!"

1st check the breakers by turning them all the way off then back on. if you just put it back to on it may not have reset.

If you ar sure about the breakers you need to cut the power to that outlet and open it up a wire may have burnt up and you would need to replace the outlet. it is probably in series with the plugs in the other room

Blown Electrical Outlet

You might have tripped a GFC breaker. These are installed in areas where water is closeby (in a bathroom, kitchen, outdoor outlet) and they are usually looped together with multiple outlets, even though they are not in the same location (for example, you may have a GFC breaker in your bathroom that feeds an adjoining bedroom).

Because they are looped together, the other outlets lose power when the GFC trips. Look around your house/apartment for outlets that have two buttons on them (usually red and black). One of these is the test button and the other is the reset button. When you push the test button, it causes the breaker to trip if it's working properly. You then reset the GFC breaker with the reset button.

Otherwise, you probably burned out the wiring at a connection point that feeds the affected outlets. Or, you permanently damaged the circuit breaker in the electrical panel. In either case, you'll have to get an electrician out to find the fault and fix it.

Hmm what exactly where you fixing? Did you really reset the breaker? You have to shut it all the way off then back on to reset them.

Lots of things you could of done. So you best call in an electrician. Hopefully you didnt pinch a wire against a metal box and arc the wire off.

It is hard to say if you can fix it unless you are looking at it.

Ummmmm, my first response is, if you were messing with a light socket with the power on, you should call an electrician.

You may have burned off a wire in the socket the lamp was plugged in to. It will have to be replaced, or at the least, looked at.

I suggest you call in someone who knows what they are doing.
