I was told my honda accord is stalling out because the distributor gasket is leaking oil onto the points and not allowing a good connection. It will start and run for a while, but then stalls out. Can I replace the gasket only on a distributor, or do I need to replace the whole distributor?

Thanks!

If you see a rust colored powder between the distributor and the cylinder head, it is too late to replace only the seal. That would mean the bearing is toast. Honda had a TSB on these in the mid-90's. It was much more cost effective to replace the distrbutor with a reman unit, but that wasn't available when the TSB came out. The only place you could get the distributor from back then was Honda and they were $556.85. You might find one at a junkyard, but make sure it is the same as the one you have. They all look alike, but have their differences. I am sure a reman unit is also available for these by now.

You can replace the seal which may work for a short while but I agree with the Volvo Guru answer...they had problems with those distributors so it's best to replace the whole thing.

The distributer on these has a problem with the bearing going bad anyway, bite the bullet and get a remanufactured one, it will save you headaches in the end
