It depends on the parents.
I personally had a nice relationship with my parents- both were easy going and understanding to the point where they should be. This lasted for awhile. Then, I had a close friend who would honestly rather hang out with her dad at the age of 14 than with her friends. Then at 16, she started to grow away from him to the point where most teenage girls were at.
Some teenagers hate their parents because their parents are too restrictive or they "don't understand them".
It's also just raging teenage hormones.

I'm not the only one that changed once I became a teenager..
My mom got a few problems with back pain and leg pain, and it makes her a *****, which makes me want to talk to her even less that I usually do, and I don't much because I'm a naturally quiet person. Plus, she just likes mostly just little kids and old people, and just assumes that everything a teenager does is because of they're angst, which is kind of annoying, so sometimes I give a small attitude when I talk to her because, umm, it annoys me the way she talks to me. I guess I never really talked to my dad that much so it's not like I grew apart from him, but for my mom and me, it's both of us-not just me.

part of the process of growing up is growing away from our parents, becoming ourselves and not an extension of them. Many teens have difficulty understanding that they can do this without all the angst and anger, so you see a great deal of my parents are terrible etc etc. Usually this sort of behavior passes once the teenage years are past.

it's a part of growing up and the change of childhood to adult hood. psychologically speaking let's just say a boy needs to stand up to his father to become a man and a women needs to emotionally let go of her mother to become a woman. believe it or not being too respectful, close and parent loving in early adulthood is not healthy. if you don't break away from your parents in the way i described above then you will have marriage problems and never let go of your parents nurturing you.
a lot of people might not agree to this but it is a true part of life
if we are talking too much disrespect well that is unhealthy and bad

Because sites like this teach kids to disrespect their parents and their traditional value systems.
They teach that they just are ignorant to the world.
They do know what is best.
At least more so than some twisted strangers on the internet.
