ok, so we have to stop them selling thier food stamps... open a communal soup kitchen... give em 3 squares a day... they do it to us... it says on my disability payment, THIS is how much the government says you need to live on.. then it takes deductions... and before anyone says otherwise, im English, i paid my taxes and believe me i didnt ask for a wheelchair...

saying that, the state supports me, but its cutting costs and corners, and its us, the needy, who find OUR services cut... coz there isnt any money... well Gordon, im not a bloody economist, but if you didnt give it all away, then just maybe you could look after millions of VOTING TAXPAYERS... who really only see your generosity to others, which is coming out of thier pockets...

Asylum seekers were given food vouchers in the past and it made no difference to the numbers seeking safety here.

Have you met any? I have. The stories they tell are horrific. When here, they can be moved from town to town at short notice and get little 'handouts' from the state. But it is what they have fled from that is what is really bad. Meet some and talk to them.

Go on. Talk to them then tell us what you think.

It's also worth pointing out that asylum seekers are not legally allowed to work in the UK, and believe me, the overwhelming majority want to!

There are a lot of ignorant bigots on these pages. i've only spent a couple of hours on here and I'm already despairing for the future...

No they wouldn't. But then the argument is that this was tried before and the vouchers were sold for cash, and also the holders of the vouchers complained that they couldn't spend their vouchers in the shops that sold the goods they wanted for a lower price.

This is the typical wishy-washy liberal answer to the argument that vouchers won't work. Sorry, but from my point of view, if you want the system to work, then you can make it work.

One of the things I noticed during the Balkan crisis was that the food the refugees were getting was of far better quality than I could afford for myself. it was all top of the range stuff. Whilst I did not begrudge it, it did make me think..
